TAIVASSALO
- TÖVFSALA When post deliveries between Turku and Stockholm were arranged in 1638, an existing route from the time of the -Middle Ages was used. At the Helsinginranta where the post sea route arrived in Taivassalo, there still exists a part of this post road and a jetty. The post road is today a bicycle path. The picturesque Järppilä manor house on the side of the post road, has now been restored as a place for celebrations and company events. Today typical event in Taivassalo is the Herring Market at the beginning of July. Places of interest in this popular tourist resort are the Holy Cross stone church that was built in the 1300's, which is an architecturally rare whole. In the Taivassalo museum there is a collection of 7000 articles. The red granite symbol of Taivassalo is an elegant landmark in front of the Merituuli coffee shop. One of Finland's longest bridges was built across the Kaitainen straight in 1982. Its length is 460 meters and height above the sea is 13.5 meters. From the Kaitainen bridge there opens up a view over Tuulvesi which is one of the best of the seascapes in Taivassalo. The grey stone arched bridge at Muntinsalmi is now part of the Finnish State road museum.
